SMALL GROUP TOURS.

ADVANTAGES.

• More intimate because they usually only consist of a maximum 17 travelers.
• Less of a ‘herded around’ feeling because of the small group size.
• Easier to make impromptu photo stops.
• Easier to stay in smaller character hotels.
• They are normally conducted in mini-buses which can get along some country lanes & tracks that larger coaches can’t travel. (As it happens in Ireland & the UK there are very few country lanes that mini-buses can get down that large coaches can’t and they are very rarely included on any itineraries anyway.)
• Mini-buses are perfect for rugged out of the way locations, adventure type tours in wild places like Glasgow city center on a Saturday night.

DISADVANTAGES.

• Mini-buses usually don’t have an on-board restroom so more stops have to be made for ‘emergencies’.
• Luggage is often piled up in the passenger cabin where you sit.
• Space is very confined if the tour is sold out with 16/17 people.
• There is usually only a driver/guide so you have to wait around for walking tours while he/she parks the bus in cities etc..
• The average cost of the tour per person per night is usually an astronomic $300-$500!
• VERY IMPORTANT BUT ALMOST ALWAYS OVERLOOKED : In Ireland & the UK there are about 350,000 miles of ancient hedgerows. (Field and country lane boundaries.) Most of the time you cannot see over the top of the hedgerows from a mini-bus because the hedgerow is higher than the windows so you miss a lot of countryside.

BIG GROUP 1st CLASS TOURS.

ADVANTAGES.

• Much lower prices than small group tours. Around $225-$310 per person per night.
• Suitcases stored down below in the coach hold not in the passenger cabin.
• On-board restroom.
• Tour driver and a Tour Director/Guide usually.
• Easily see over hedgerows as the larger coaches’ windows are mostly above the hedgerows.

DISADVANTAGES.

• Usually 50+ seats on-board the coach & tour operators frequently sell every single seat.
• Takes ages for 50 people to get off the coach at stops.
• Statistically higher chance of people getting lost at stops and holding up the tour.
• Tour Directors frequently conduct back-to-back tours over several months without a break.
• Difficult finding hand luggage space in the overhead locker on sold out tours just like flights.
• Most tour operators in this category tend to be more ‘commercially biased’. EG. Usually lots of extra optional excursions are sold on tour, so called ‘tourist trap’ stops are more common, they are less inclined to treat travelers as individuals, tour itineraries are frequently planned around being competitive with their competitors rather than based around ‘a perfect tour for travelers’ etc..

• Our SPACE-BUS tours use standard 49-53 seat length coaches but we only sell 30 seats maximum giving around 40% free space allowing you more ‘elbow room’ & ‘b-r-e-a-t-h-i-n-g space’ on-board. Just think – full flight compared to half-full flight – no contest is there!
• Single travelers get two seats each on the coach. Helps to make up a bit for those annoying and sadly unavoidable hotel single supplements.
• Our tour prices are highly competitive at around just $214-$270 per person per night.
• Suitcases are stored down below in the coach hold not in the passenger cabin.
• Much more hand luggage space in the overhead locker.
• On-board restroom. (Our coaches, like most other tour operators, have a/c + seat-belts as well.)
• We always have a Tour driver and a Tour Director. (Frequently a Lady Hostess as well!)
• You can easily see over almost all hedgerows as our SPACE-BUS coach windows are higher.
• Quicker for 30 people to get off a coach.
• Our style gets rid of that ‘herded’ feeling you can get with 50 people on a coach.
• Tour Directors forbidden from doing back-to-back tours.
• Definitely no ‘tourist trap’ stops.
